Whether the hair is six or sixty inches long, the eyes have make-up or not, the riffs are in ‘E’ or ‘F’ sharp, the amps are Marshall or not, all those things don’t matter if you are doing it for the right reason, which to me means doing it for yourself!!
Being true to yourself and doing things the way you want to do them is what artistic integrity is all about. It doesn't matter how you look or what equipment you use - as long as you're doing it for yourself and for the right reasons.

31) Metallica is going to be one of those bands you look back on in the year 2008, that people will still listen to the way I still listen to Zeppelin and Sabbath albums.

42) The Metallica film was like this incredible life experience where I learned the most through guys that stereotypically you would think couldn’t offer much to you. That’s what I love about the film: It explodes your stereotype of them – they’re not just a bunch of lug-heads banging on the guitar.

45) That’s why I think it hurt us, whereas these other bands [I’m assuming he means the other Big 3 -Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica] kept doing their thing, just METAL. METAL. METAL. METAL. We didn’t do that, we took a little bit of a turn.

46) We’ve played with Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and The Ramones. 49) Lars [Ulrich] of Metallica is one of the worst drummers I’ve ever heard, but they hide it because they spend millions recording.
Some people think that Lars Ulrich, the drummer from Metallica, isn't very good at playing drums. But because Metallica spends a lot of money on recording their music, they can use fancy equipment and techniques to make him sound better.
50) I started playing guitar when I was 12, and I started getting into more metal, like Maiden and Metallica… Of course, as I kind of got better and better at the guitar, I was listening to more guitar players, so then I got into, I guess, more of the prog side.
